My name is Kate Brannen, and I’m excited to join the team as an intern for Ervin | Hill Strategy this summer. Growing up in central Oklahoma, I always was set on being a Sooner and attending the University of Oklahoma. In fact, I didn’t apply anywhere else — a choice I’m sure pleased my alumnae mom and pained my Texas born-and-bred dad. He eventually came around and even sported crimson to my graduation in May, where I earned a B.A in Journalism with a focus in public relations, and minors in business enterprise studies and women’s and gender studies.
Just two weeks after graduating, I crammed what I could into my car and made the 22 hour drive to D.C. Even though I miss my family and friends back home, I’m thrilled to be here and look forward to gaining hands-on experience in crisis management. During my time at EHS, I aim to gain an understanding of the strategies used when managing crisis situations and to better understand government relations in strategic communications.
When I’m not hard at work, I enjoy being outdoors and meeting new people—something D.C. has limitless opportunities for. Though I’m still getting used to ins-and-outs of life in D.C., I’m excited to experience the city as a local. Whether that be searching for the city’s best kept secrets or figuring out how to successfully navigate the metro, I’m ready to take on whatever comes my way.
